What should be inculded in a curriculum vitae for entering a biology graduate program?
Q. I am applying for an environmental science master's program. My curriculum vitae was requested. I am having a hard time knowing what to include. It seems all the examples that I have searched are for people applying for academic positions, not trying to get in. I know I should include personal information, educational background and goals. What else should be added?

A. Start with your education - all institutions attended, including high school, degree and year earned. Include any relevant job experience - internships, teaching assistant in college, summer jobs related to your field, etc. List any and all publications, conference papers, talks, or posters, or invited talks. Have a section for any awards you won and any professional organizations you belong to. I usually include a section called 'relevant coursework'.

where can I find a good curriculum for home schooling?
Q. I want to begin a home schooling program for my children, but don't know where to begin drawing up a curriculum. Can anyone help me out? Thanks to everyone who answered. I am a father of 2 but currently living in South Korea, which does not have such a great educational system. I began teaching the basics to my kids aged 5 and 7 instead of kindergarten, and am looking for some basic guidelines. Thanks so much to all who answered.

A. It depends on how they are and you would like to approach homeschooling. Theres different styles of education and there is just no way for anyone to tell you whats right for your family. I use a mixture of products. When I first started homeschooling I only used Alpha Omega- which is good- because you can get placement tests for them and put them in the exact level they need to be. All your lessons are made up already and you have teachers manuals. Now we use some of the Alpha Omega, Abeka, workbooks I get at the store, the internet and life experiences as well as old text books that school are tossing out. A real good resource that is invaluable to my family is abcteach.com. They have tons of worksheets, thematics and printable books, and… [cont.]

Is there a homeschool curriculum that is free and issues credits?
Q. I am looking for a free curriculum that issues credits. I have been looking into Florida Virtual School. I am a high school student that wishes to be home schooled but my family cannot afford something that is expensive; and most of the curriculums are. Is there something out there like Florida Virtual School? I need a second option. Please provide the link if you can. Thanks.
Asked by Justin - Wed Oct 14 19:23:37 2009 - Home Schooling - 1 Answers - Comments
A. If you live in Florida, then Florida's Virtual Academy is the only one that is both free and gives public school credit, so you have already found your answer. If you live in another state, you can check this map to see if there is a free k12 program available. Not all states have tax-supported virtual schools, and of those that do, many of them operate on a traditional calendar which means that you might not be able to start until next year.

What is a Bible curriculum to use for homeschooling my 5 year old?
Q. This is my first year of homeschooling my son. He will be in kindergarten. We are using K12 for our core subjects but I want add a Bible class to his lessons. What is a good Bible curriculum for homeschooling?

A. The one curriculum that comes to mind is ABeka. You could see if you like what they have for K5 and then you could check on buying it used, possibly online, to save money. When my older boys were younger, I loved the site akidsheart.com. It has Bible verses that you can have your son memorize. (They are easy verses and would be perfect for his age.) Then there are online games, printable activities, coloring pages, and even wallpaper for your computer with each verse. (I love it!) So if you want him to memorize some scriptures, this could be his Bible curriculm. (or part of it) See what you think...

How do I make the transition from teaching in the classroom to a career in curriculum development?
Q. I have been teaching for three years, but I want to move into curriculum development. I have a masters of education in curriculum and development and am very interested in transitioning completely to curriculum development, but I am not quite sure how to do that.
Asked by QT D Bomb - Sun Dec 24 23:19:27 2006 - Teaching - 5 Answers - Comments
A. First, look for internal promotion opportunities. Could you become the head of the X department within your current school or at a new school in your district? In that position, you would be able to take on some curriculum leadership responsibilities while staying in the classroom. Once you've demonstrated that kind of initiative, jobs outside the classroom from the Board/Ministry of Education and/or the school district would be more within your reach. Those jobs are normally advertised in trade newsletters and on the websites of the respective agencies.

A. I don't quite understand your question "ask details on how to make decisions planning the curriculum", but I am a retired teacher and I think you may be looking at an entire term or year and wondering how to plan it out to cover it all. l was an elem teacher and my goal at all levels in elem. was to make sure they could read, because by the time they got to middle school, they had to read to learn. Then I concentrated on math. Those, to me, are the 2 most basic skills and then writing. If you are secondary, I'm not as much help, but focus on what they must know to go on and make sure you get that done !

What is a good homeschool curriculum for high school?
Q. I have recently started being homeschooled, and need a curriculum for the rest of the year. A semester-long curriculum would be great, if possible. I'm in 9th grade, but in mostly advanced classes, so it would also be good to be able to pick out individual courses I can take. It doesn't matter if it's computerized or on paper/books, as long as it's not incredibly expensive. If you're homeschooled, feel free to just say the program/curriculum you're using, and your thoughts about it.

A. I use Wordly Wise 3000. It gives 20 lessons, each with 5 different types of exercises for a list of words. The word list are definitely stretching and allow for a bit more detailed use and meaning of the words than perhaps just reviewing words in context, which I have done in the past as well. The different exercises add a bit more spice than just defining a word and using in a sentence.Don't ge me wrong, that happens in these books as well to a certain extent, but the whole deal is just more interesting and more challenging, My 11 year old daughter has often had occasion to marvel that "I know that word" when she comes across it in her other reading, because she had just studied a week before. Neat!

Q. I am looking for a new vocabulary for my now 5th grader and 1st grader as well as for next year 6th and 2nd. Please tell me what you like about your curriculum and what you don't like and if you would recommend it. I know it depends on their learning styles, I am just looking for recommendations so I can research them for myself. Thanks!

Neat!

A. You'll find a link below from the Canadian Child Care Federation providing many links to curriculum and programming ideas. There are many resources listed and I'm sure you'll find some great information! I hope this helps!

In formal education, a curriculum ( / k ə ˈ r ɪ k jʉ l əm /; plural: curricula / k ə ˈ r ɪ k jʉ l ə / or curriculums) is the set of courses, and their content, offered at a school or university. As an idea, curriculum stems from the Latin word for race course, referring to the course of deeds and experiences through which children grow to become mature adults. A curriculum is prescriptive, and is based on a more general syllabus which merely specifies what topics must be understood and to what level to achieve a particular grade or standard.
